Brian Peterson-Roest The nonprofit Bees in the D is managing a network of beehives in Detroit to offset the decline of honeybees. Honeybee populations have declined dramatically for most of the past decade. The US Department of Agriculture estimates that honeybees pollinate about $15 billion of crops each year. by I'm Struggling
in News
It had been eighty years since the last major hurricane made landfall in Puerto Rico. When notice of Hurricane Maria came through, many on the island didn’t know what to expect, including Dr. Hector Santiago, a practicing optometrist and professor at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. “The main problem was the inability to know what was happening as there was no way to communicate,” said Dr. Santiago. In the aftermath of the hurricane, communities began their journey to rebuild. The necessities came first with lines quickly forming to get things like cash and water. “The incredible thing was […]

Nicki Minaj, Cardi B beef surges with viral Twitter hashtag

by I'm Struggling
in News
Twitter users are blaming Nicki Minaj left and right for stopping their bag (aka keeping them from making money). But the viral hashtag #NickiStoppedMyBag isn’t a dig at Minaj—it’s throwing shade at her fellow New York rapper Cardi B, and Nicki herself is egging it on. The beef between the two rappers, of course, came to head in a skirmish at New York Fashion Week earlier this month. After launching her shoe in Nicki’s direction at the Harper’s Bazaar party, Cardi left with a huge bruise. She followed up with an Instagram post directed at Nicki, accusing her of keeping her from […]

by I'm Struggling
in News
“Climate change is here; it’s happening,” seems to be the overwhelming sentiment after a summer of heatwaves and historic wildfires that now has, with barely a breath in between, slipped into an early fall marked by severe storms and deadly floods. Hurricane Florence continues to devastate mid-Atlantic states while Typhoon Mangkhut takes a severe toll on China and the Philippines and has, for now, been named the world’s strongest storm this year. But before the wind and water there was the heat and fire. Severe wildfires broke out around the world this summer, from the U.S. and Canada to Sweden […]
