People are furiously speculating that Amazon could be getting more tax benefits by splitting its HQ2 between 2 cities — but it’s too early to say whether that will happen (AMZN)

by I'm Struggling
Cliff Owen/AP Amazon is reportedly planning to split its second headquarters, HQ2, between two locations: Long Island City in New York and the Crystal City area of Arlington, Virginia, according to The New York Times. Some people are speculating as to whether Amazon will be able to double up on some of the proposed financial incentives if it is split between two headquarters.  At least one expert says it’s not yet clear what will happen on that front, as the process has largely been conducted in secret.  On Monday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon is planning to split […]

Why This New Chatbot Is More Likely To Get You Promoted Than Fired

by I'm Struggling
Confession: For the past several months I’ve been furiously coding away on a new project as part of HubSpot Labs. It’s called GrowthBot. It’s a chatbot for marketing and sales people — and anyone looking to grow a company (like startup folks). The launch has gone well, and my bot is currently happily handling thousands of messages. Things like “show me companies in california that use HubSpot” and “who are the top influencers about landing pages”. GrowthBot can answer most of these, and thousands of others. So, overall, it’s been a good day. But, anytime bots come up in conversation […]

How the Camp Fire Stacks Up to Other Disasters

by I'm Struggling
in News
As of this writing, the ongoing Camp Fire in northern California was responsible for taking at least 42 lives and destroying more than 6,400 homes. Both numbers are expected to rise as the fire continues and as first responders sift through the wreckage. As extreme wildfires like this one become the new normal across the American West, I thought it’d be important to put the devastation they create in perspective.  The Camp Fire was likely started by downed power lines sometime on Thursday morning. Near-zero-humidity conditions had left brush bone dry, meaning embers burst into flames almost immediately. Powerful winds coming down […]

What it means for couples to go ‘unicorn hunting’ — and why it usually doesn’t end well

rawpixel.com / Unsplash Polyamory is when couples allow each other to have multiple romantic partners outside their primary relationship. There are several different approaches, such as triads which consist of three people. Sometimes couples try out polyamory naively, especially when a straight couple wants to find another bisexual woman to join them. This is called “unicorn hunting,” and it’s something of a cliché in the poly community. To some people, the idea of polyamory — the term describing having more than one romantic partner — is exciting. In polyamorous relationships, a couple decides they will give each other the freedom […]

An IT repairman is selling off more than 1,000 rare, vintage Apple computers — here’s a look at his impressive collection (AAPL)

by I'm Struggling
An Austrian computer repairman has amassed what he believes could be the world’s biggest collection of old Apple computers.  But it might all soon be destroyed unless someone can take it off his hands. Since he began working for a company that repaired Apples in Vienna in the 1980s, Roland Borsky’s collection has grown to roughly 1,100 computers. He hopes that a benefactor will put his collection on display and pay off his debt of 20,000-30,000 euros ($23,000-35,000). “I would be pleased if it is simply put on display anywhere … so people can see it,” Borsky, 53, said […]

Invisible Illnesses….What Are They!?

by I'm Struggling
What is an invisible illness? * An invisible illness, or sometimes known as an invisible disability, is simply a medical condition that is not easily visible to others. * This includes not just mental illnesses, but also chronic physical conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, fibromyalgia and others. * When you have an invisible illness, it is common to encounter judgement and criticism from others. Because they can not see your symptoms, people will sometimes conclude that you must be ‘making up’ you illness or symptoms, which is obviously not the case. * People who suffer with an invisible illness are […]
