Some 200 Horses Seek Refuge From Hurricane Florence In Aiken

Farms near Aiken, S.C. have taken in roughly 200 horses from the coastal Carolinas in anticipation of Hurricane Florence. The Blood-Horse reported the refugees are mostly show horses and polo ponies seeking shelter ahead of the storm. Aiken is far enough inland it doesn’t often experience significant damage from storms, according to Dogwood Stable’s Jack Sadler. The storm is expected to delay transport of some horses form the Keeneland September sale as horsemen will likely wait out the system.
