Study: ’13 Reasons Why’ may increase vulnerable teens’ suicide risk

by I'm Struggling
Netflix’s teen drama 13 Reasons Why has remained incredibly controversial since its release in 2017, mostly due to its glorification of main character Hannah Baker’s suicide. Now, a new study suggests the show may be increasing suicide risks among teens. The study, which comes from the University of Michigan, claims that out of 87 youth patients admitted to a psychiatric emergency department due to suicide-related concerns, 49 percent watched at least one episode of the show’s first season, and “over half” of those viewers believed the series “increased their suicide risk to a nonzero degree.” The study also found that identifying […]

Podcasts were my friends when I had none

by I'm Struggling
Welcome to No Shame November! This week we’re diving into the pop culture we love that society tells us we shouldn’t. Alone in my apartment, chewing on cheap takeout lo mein, rocking the same sweatpants for a fifth day in a row—again. Six months after finishing my bachelor’s degree, this was how I found myself: a post-grad poltergeist haunting my New York City abode like a metropolitan Boo Radley. Isolated. Lonely. Things had gotten bad. My life hadn’t always been this bleak. As a senior in college, I had lived with my two best friends, Sarah and Ellie, a pair […]

Someone Says “Depression Is A Choice”, And Andy Richter’s Response Is Brilliant

by I'm Struggling
Earlier this year we lost several beloved figures to suicide such as Kate Spade, Anthony Bourdain, and Avicii to name a few, re-starting a worldwide conversation on mental illness. However, despite the far from new dialogue surrounding depression many people still seem woefully uninformed on how it works and how it is treated. One of the most common uneducated ideas about depression is that it is something that can be willed away if you just try hard enough, and thanks to the internet those who have actually struggled with the disease have a platform to dispell this myth. Comedian Andy […]

Are You A Sociopath? (TEST)

by I'm Struggling
Following Shane Dawson’s documentary on Jake Paul. I thought it would be fitting to do a sociopath test. What is a sociopath? A quick google search reveals a sociopath is a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviors. Most sociopaths tend to lie on tests like this one but if you recognize yourself whilst answering these questions then it might be time for you to seek professional help. 1. Do you regularly tell lies or say insecure things 2. Do you feel remorse or shame 3. Do you make false suicide threats? 4. Do […]

Michelle Obama ‘Stopped Even Trying To Smile’ During Trump’s Inauguration!

by I'm Struggling
She may usually be sporting a million dollar smile, but, like most of us, Michelle Obama had little to smile about when Donald Trump was sworn into office in January 2017. In her new book Becoming, the former First Lady got candid on how Trump’s winning the presidency affected her. Unsurprisingly, the political upset gave her all the symptoms of clinical depression. Related: Trump Deflects Michelle’s Criticism With NONSENSE! Obama wrote that she just wanted “to block it all out and go to sleep” once it was clear that Trump would win the election in November 2016, as she was particularly […]

I’m 27 And I’m Dying. I Think Euthanasia Should Be Legalized

by I'm Struggling
My partner and I have been documenting daily life with a disability through Instagram without the filters and mushy inspo-porn. I’m brutally honest and open with my photos, revealing aspects of disabled life that you don’t often hear about. I’m Holly Warland, a 27-year-old woman from Australia and I have a rare condition called Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. My LGMD involves the gradual deterioration of all my muscles from the chin down leaving me predominantly bed bound and reliant on care. I was diagnosed at 11 but led a mostly typical life with great support from family and friends. I […]

5 Signs You’re An Ambivert…

by I'm Struggling
People always ask me are you an introvert or an extrovert? Like many others I struggle to answer this question. I don’t quite fit into either category. Does that mean I’m an ambivert? So what is an ambivert? An ambivert is someone who exhibits qualities of both introversion and extroversion. Here are 5 signs you’re an ambivert. 1 – Spending too much time alone bores you but spending too much time with others drains you. 2 – You are able to work alone but also in a group with others. 3 – Some people think you’re quiet whilst others think […]
